Did Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen Give the Sabres the Best Chance in Game 7?

The Buffalo Sabres lost game 7 to the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 after the Canadiens scored the winning goal in overtime. While it was a great series, the Sabres were often switching who would be in goal. They kept switching between Luukkonen and Alex Lyon. Lyon came in to replace Luukkonen during the Sabres series against the Boston Bruins after Luukkonen allowed 7 goals in games 1 and 2. Lyon started games 3-6 and played well, only allowing 5 goals in those 4 games. Lyon then started in games 1 and 2 against Montreal and it went poorly. Lyon followed Luukkonen’s example and allowed 7 goals in those 2 games. He was given another chance in game 3 and allowed 5 goals. Then came the game of musical chairs that was the Sabres goalie position. Each time someone played poorly, they lost their starting job. It finally came to an end when Lyon was pulled in game 6 after allowing 3 goals on only 4 shots. Luukkonen held strong for the remainder of the game and the Sabres ran away with the victory 8-3. Luukkonen started game 7 and played admirably, was this the right decision though? It's always easy to say that they could have played Lyon since they lost the game, but I believe that Luukkonen was the right choice to keep in goal and gave them the best chance at winning game 7. He was the one who played the best at that particular point in time. The Sabres will now have an offseason to figure out what to do at the goalie spot to avoid this situation again next season.
