The United States started its 2026 World Cup campaign with a splash and defeated Paraguay 4-1. An own goal by Paraguay followed by two goals by Folarin Balogun and one goal by Gio Reyna gave the United States the win. The own goal occurred in the seventh minute, Balogun scored in the thirty-first minute and the fifth minute of first half stoppage time. Reyna’s goal was the last time a player touched the ball as it came in the eighth minute of second half stoppage and the final whistle blew after his goal. This was a dominant win by the United States over an inferior opponent and it was very visible that was the case. The referee was very busy, handing out five yellow cards to Paraguay players alone. Though, Paraguay is a heavily penalized team. One yellow card was given to Tyler Adams for the United States. The United States took care of business and look forward to their next group stage game against Australia on June 19th, another win will all but guarantee their spot in the knockout rounds.
